Rheumatology Advocates Gathered in Annual Advocacy Conference
Posted: September 28, 2022
The CSRO hosted its first in-person annual advocacy meeting since the pandemic hit in 2019. State society advocacy leaders from around the country kicked-off the meeting by honoring the CSRO founders, Dr. Michael Schweitz, and Dr. Greg Schimizzi, who formed the organization back in 2002.
Advocacy sessions started with a review of the current state and federal advocacy landscape. Attendees learned about CSRO’s priority issues and which policies passed into law or were still pending action. Dr. Madelaine Feldman and Dr. Aaron Broadwell provided insights into CSRO’s employer outreach plan and how rheumatologists can submit insurance related issues to the Payer Issue Response Team (PIRT) through their website using the Payer Issue Reporting Form.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Damon Tweedy, delivered a thought-provoking lunch lecture, “Is There a Black Doctor in the House?” The afternoon continued with state legislators from Oklahoma and New York providing insights into PBM reform legislation and the Texas Medical Association discussing the new “gold carding” law in Texas. More information about the content of the sessions is available here.
