Iowa joined the 27 other states, including Puerto Rico, that have passed legislation to provide pathways for access to Biosimilars, and create much needed patient safety rules, including a guideline for pharmacists to communicate to physicians about a Biosimilar substitution within 5 business days of its dispensing. This communication strengthens the relationship between patient and physician, and allows physicians to track and counter events from these medications.
House File 305 received unanimous approval from each legislative Chamber before quickly being signed by Governor Terry Branstad. CSRO continuously tracks and supports the safe introduction of interchangeable biologic drugs into the practice of medicine in Iowa, and was a recorded proponent in Committee and at the Governor’s Office. Please check the CSRO website for updates on many health care issues like this across the country.
