On April 13, HB 2055 was signed by Governor Sam Brownback. It included critical patient safety rules that involved a communication within 5 business days from pharmacists to physicians about any biosimilar substitutions. This bill provides important pathways for access to biologic medications, while maintaining patient safety and physician awareness. This bill makes Kansas the 30th state to pass biosimilar substitution legislation. Congratulations to everyone who participated in this effort.
The CSRO is currently tracking the movement of supported legislation in Connecticut, Nebraska, and Nevada, and has sent letters of support for biosimilar bills that have passed the General Assemblies in Maryland and South Carolina, and await action by the Governors.
